Now I know this chap may be a bit marmite but I couldn’t bear seeing him all dusty and unloved on the charity shop shelf … so I’ve brought him home, made him a new fishing rod out of a piece of bamboo - just as he would have had originally - and given him a chance to shine again. He would have been handcrafted in Naples, Italy and made his way over to the English market in the 1950's.
The hand-painted piece shows a rustic finely detailed fisherman in period clothings resting on a tree stump by the river and showing off his fresh catch of fish alongside his basket. He has no chips and is a fab conversation piece.
