This lovely quirky item is a framed print of an antique lithograph or engraving dating from the mid-to-late 19th century, featuring a detailed illustration of an orangutan. Many prints featuring this specific composition (an upright orangutan with a staff) were published in natural history series like Lloyd's Natural History (1897) or works by Johannes Ranke (1894)

The label "Simia satyrus" is a major clue to its age. This was the scientific name for orangutans coined by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. By the early 20th century, the scientific community began shifting toward the name Pongo pygmaeus, so prints using the "Simia" nomenclature are almost always from the 1900s or earlier

The print features a matted, framed presentation

Dimensions: 25 x 36cm
