An authentic, late 19th-century primitive wooden agricultural bird-scaring clapper (also known as a crow scarer).
This wonderful piece of British folk art/treen was historically used by young farmworkers to scare birds away from newly planted crop fields.
Condition & Details:
  • Authentic Blacksmith Ironwork: Features a hand-forged iron pin fastener, showing great irregularity and a beautiful, untouched dark patina.
  • Original Construction: Complete with its original thick leather washer mechanism, which is still fully intact and holding the wooden slappers securely.
  • Beautiful Patina: The oak or fruitwood panels have a stunning, deeply weathered open grain texture from decades of agricultural use.
  • Working Condition: The wooden flaps move and "clap" freely when shaken.
A superb addition to any collection of country treen, early agricultural tools, or rustic farmhouse decor.
Dimensions: 27 cm long

Please see photos for a close-up look at the hand-forged metalwork and natural age-related wear to the wood. Please note the split in the top clapper!
